Schluß, I) das Beschließen, Endigen und der Punkt, wo etwas ein Ende nimmt: conclusio (das Schließen, Endigen, z.B. in extrema parte et conclusione muneris ac negotii tui). – missio (die Unterlassung, z.B. ludorum). – finis. exitus (Ende, Ausgang). – extrema pars (der letzte Teil einer Sache). – clausula (die Schlußformel eines Briefes oder andern Aufsatzes, die nur aus wenig Worten od. aus einer Periode besteht; auch die kurze Schlußszene eines Theaterstücks). – epilŏgus (ἐπίλογος); rein latein. conclusio od. peroratio (der letzte Teil einer kunstgemäßen Rede, die Schlußrede). – rhythmischer Sch. der Rede, verborum conclusio. – Häufig auch durch das partit. Adjekt. extremus, z.B. der Sch. deines Briefes, extrema epistula tua: am Sch. eines Zeitraums, extremo tempore: am Sch des Winters, extremā hieme (im letzten Teil des Winters; hingegen sub fine hiemis ganz gegen das Ende des Winters): der Sch. der Rede, des Briefes etc., s. Ende (der Rede etc.), Schlußrede: am Sch. der Rede, in extrema oratione (im letzten Teil; hingegen in fine orationis ganz am Ende): am Sch. des Jahres, sub fine od. exitu anni; anno exeunte: zum Sch., ad extremum; vgl. »schließlich«. – etw. zum Sch. bringen, alqd ad finem od. ad exitum adducere: zum Sch. kommen, ad finem venire; mit der Rede, perorare: ehe der Sch. der Rede kommt, ante quam peroratur (peroretur): am Sch. des Lebens stehen, s. »am Rand des Grabes stehen« unter »Rand«. – II) Folgerung: conclusio, auch mit dem Zus. rationis (die Schlußfolge, die man aus einer Reihe von Sätzen zieht, z.B. tota conclusio iacet [ist falsch]). – ratiocinatio (der Vernunftschluß und der Beweis aus Vernunftschlüssen). – ein scharfsinniger Sch., acute conclusum: einen Sch. ziehen, s. folgern, schließen no. II, 1.
